Can large brands (i.e. a single domain) dominate Google's search results?

Here's a recent quote from a Google spokesperson confirming that the search results discussed here and here are part of a ranking/user interface change related to domain-based intent:
“We periodically reassess our ranking and UI choices, and today we made a change to allow a larger number of pages from the same site to appear for a given query. This happens for searches that indicate a strong user interest in a particular domain.”

For those who are not aware of Google's Brand Update, here's a good article: http://searchengineland.com/google-s...e-domain-49025

Hiya all.

I have a website that's ranking # 2 and 3 for the keyword "naturally playful sandbox"
GKT states 1000 local searches monthly...

Commercial intent tool shows a 0.99 probability for intent.

http://www.naturallyplayfulsandbox.org/

I'm yet to generate a sale using Amazon for this site.

I'm not sure if it's the review on the site, call to action or what...
Am I serving Prima Donna customers I wonder?

Highly appreciated in advance.

I am not a newbie and this question is not coming from the general perspective of "How can I get people to come to my site?"

Some background first...

I have a site that I started when I was a newbie, so granted it is probably not set up exactly how I would set it up today, but it is not too bad either. I spent months trying to get it to rank for several search terms that I was targeting and I was able to get a small amount of traffic. I even made a few sales (Clickbank products).

I got involved with some other things and let this site go for a few months and, as to be expected, the rankings dropped. I started back building some links to it and I got a couple search terms on the front page. I even started making some decent money ($30-40/day) for a couple weeks while getting 100-120 visitors/day.

Some things (personal) came up that I couldn't spend time with it for about a month and the first page rankings I had dropped back to pages 2 or 3. A couple weeks ago, I started back at it hard building backlinks. At the time I started (during the month I let off) traffic had dropped back to 40-50/day. Over the past 2-3 weeks traffic has gone back up to 70-80/day now. This is my problem/question though. I rank higher now for just about all the search terms I have been targeting, but I am not getting the traffic I expected to get. Can someone explain or at least offer some suggestions/insite?

Without giving away my niche, here are some details:

Google Monthly
Search Term Global Searches My Ranking
1 12,100 #1
2 5,400 #5
3 6,600 #9
4 3,600 #2
5 27,100 #3

Based on what I have seen others say, the #1 position should get about a 40% CTR from position #1, and an 8-10% CTR from position #3. Based on that, my search term #1 (400 searches/day) should be getting 160 hits/day. And term #5 (900 searches/day) should be getting another 90/day. So for just these two search terms, the math says I should be getting about 250 visitors/day and I am not getting anywhere near that.

Please, any ideas?
